I spoke with a local agent yesterday who was referred to me through Clever. Unfortunately, the experience wasn’t great. The agent seemed more interested in just getting a listing than actually explaining Clever’s programs. When I asked about the impact of the NAR lawsuit, she brushed it off, saying it “did nothing” and that her brokerage requires 3% on the seller’s side with no room to negotiate fees.
When I brought up Clever’s advertised programs, she glossed over my questions and spent more time criticizing Clever than explaining how things worked. It felt like she only used the Clever referral to get her foot in the door, which left me feeling misled. Needless to say, this agent and brokerage will not be listing my home.
To be fair, this may not be a reflection of Clever as a whole, but in my case, it was enough for me to decide not to use them going forward. Maybe Clever works better in other markets, but for me, it wasn’t the right fit. My advice—do your own research, ask tough questions, and don’t settle for an agent who isn’t upfront.
Best of luck to anyone considering them.
